FAQs

What program do you use to create your gifs?
I use Photoshop CS4 which I find picks the best range of colours to make gifs look great. Tumblr’s policy on gifs is that they must be under 500x500 and below 500KB otherwise the gif will be submitted as a high quality JPEG and won’t animate. Try using less colours, less frames or a smaller size if your gif won’t work.
I sent you a suggestion/message but I haven’t heard back!
1. This is a second blog so I’ll only post in your ask if you allow anon messages. If you ask a question anonymously you’ll get no response, sorry.
2. I look at every suggestion. If I can make it I’ll drop a link to it in your ask once its been posted. Gifs need to be carefully balanced, the movement:frames ratio is critical, so the longer and more complex the suggestion, the less likely it will be made.
3. I get a lot of suggestions so it may take time to get around to yours, please be patient! :)
Will you reblog/post my gif?
I originally thought this would be OK, and I did have a post page for a while, but (some) people weren’t following the guidelines and I was getting grief from some people when I didn’t post their work. So, I’ve decided to keep the blog my work only. Please do suggest a gif if you’d like.
This blog has posted your gif claiming its theirs…
Well… this is Tumblr. This kinda thing happens. I don’t tag my gifs because I don’t want to claim anything, I just love the show.
You can normally spot an americandadgifs original if the gif is a nice large size (I’ll never post anything less that 500x290) and if the caption’s font type is Gotham then it definitely is mine. Thank you for supporting my efforts!
Just a note to those who do repost other peoples work: it is quite mean. You’re claiming that you did something that someone else put their time & effort into creating. Please just reblog other peoples work.
